Identify the calculation first

Driver roles may use different compensation structures. Before comparing offers, ask what unit or work is paid and how the calculation operates. A mileage figure, an hourly rate and a percentage-based arrangement are not directly comparable without more detail. Ask which structure applies to the actual opening you are discussing.

Understand the work covered

Ask whether the quoted structure covers only driving or also other duties. Clarify how waiting time, loading or unloading, extra stops, layover and equipment downtime are handled when relevant. Record the answers rather than assuming the employer follows the same approach as a previous company.

Discuss mileage and percentage details

For mileage-based arrangements, ask which miles are counted and what records are used. For percentage-based arrangements, ask what the percentage is applied to and which items are included or excluded. These are questions for the recruiter or company; a short advertisement may not contain enough information to understand the complete arrangement.

Ask about timing and documentation

Confirm when payments are issued and how you can review the calculation. Ask which written terms describe the arrangement and how you can raise a question about a payment. If a bonus or additional payment is mentioned, request the conditions that apply to the specific offer.

Compare complete opportunities

Pay is one part of the role. Consider the lane pattern, home-time arrangement, duties and equipment alongside the compensation structure. Keep a comparison sheet using the same questions for each employer. Lions Empire recruiting can discuss the current terms for available openings; confirm those details directly before making a decision.
